Nose to Tail & Beyond
Our farm business has always been focused on producing grass fed heritage breed cattle for delicious meat and preserving pure genetics in support of the Rare Breed Trust of Australia. Belted Galloway cattle are a native Scottish breed, traditionally grown, meaning they are hardy in various conditions, thrive on a diverse natural grass diet and produce a unique seasonal coat. The past 12 years have been focused on nose to tail meat production, mainly at local farmers’ markets and restaurants in Melbourne and regional Victoria. We have produced tanned hides from the meat steers into glorious rugs that are all unique in colour, hair length and belt patterns and are now very proud to see these hides transformed into bags and cushions.
These Hidegoods have been in my head for many years and to see it actually happening is amazing. Thank-you to everyone that has helped get us this far, it is really appreciated. We’re very excited to be taking nose to tail to another level. #nosetotailandbeyond
As you are all well aware our beautiful cattle have a white ‘belt’ and, as we are learning, when it comes to manufacturing ‘hidegoods’ we rapidly run out of ‘belt’! Who’d have thought that would happen? So there is a premium for the white #beltie bit but we remember the black bits are equally beautiful and there is something timeless about black – thank goodness.
Because they are a natural product, every single bag or cushion will be unique and there will never be another one exactly the same. We are very proud to be working with Wootten who have been manufacturing amazing leather goods for many years, locally here in Melbourne. Working with Belted Galloway is a new venture for them, but Jess & Krystina understand the uniqueness of each hide and will be getting the best out of each one.
